The Alaska Division of Elections will release the final unofficial vote count on Wednesday before tabulating voters’ ranked preferences to determine the winners of races where no candidate received a majority of votes in the first round.

Gavel Alaska will broadcast the canvassing process live from the Elections Division in Juneau. The broadcast is planned to start at 17.00. You can watch the process live in the video above, on KTOO 360TV or from Gavel Alaska. YouTube channel.

The results of the final count and tabulation will determine the winners (pending certification) in several key races, including the U.S. House race and eight legislative contests.

Republican Nick Begich III victory has already been declared In the race for the US House of Representatives. She leads Democratic Congresswoman Mary Peltola by nearly two percentage points but lacks the majority needed to win in the first round. The second preference votes of the 5% of voters who chose minor candidates in the first round are not expected to give Peltola an advantage. We’ll find out who voters chose as their second choice in tonight’s tabulation.

If no candidate receives more than 50% of the first choice votes during the tabulation process, the candidate with the fewest votes is eliminated. These voters’ second preferences are then redistributed to the remaining candidates.

This process continues until one candidate obtains a majority of votes or until only two candidates remain, at which point the candidate with the most votes wins.

The results will not be official until certified by the Electoral Office. The estimated date for this is November 30.

Here are the eight legislative races that will be decided at the time of tabulation:

  • Senate District D is the northern and central Kenai Peninsula race featuring incumbent Sen. Jesse Bjorkman and conservative challengers Ben Carpenter (both Republicans) and Democrat Tina Wegener.
  • Senate District F in Anchorage Hillside, where incumbent Republican Sen. James Kaufman faces Democrat Janice Park and Republican Harold Borbridge
  • Senate L District in Chugiak-Eagle River, where incumbent Republican Sen. Kelly Merrick faces conservative Republican challenger Jared Goecker and Democrat Lee Hammermeister
  • 6th District District, which includes the southern Kenai Peninsula and Homer County, where Homer and incumbent Republican Rep. Sarah Vance face independent Brent Johnson and Republican Dawson Slaughter
  • All-Republican open seat race in House District 28, Wasilla, including Elexie Moore, Steve Menard and Jessica Wright
  • House District 36 is a broad inland area that stretches from Glennallen to Delta Junction and the Yukon River drainage, where Republican Rebecca Schwanke, Democrat Brandon Putuuqti Kowalski, Republican Pamela Goode and Libertarian James Fields are running for the open seat.
  • District 38 in Lower Kuskokwim, where Democrat Nellie Unangik Jimmie faces incumbent Democratic Rep. C.J. McCormick, Veterans Party candidate Willy Keppel and Democrat Victoria Sosa.
  • House District 40 in the North Slope and Northwest Arctic, where Democrats Robyn Niayuq Burke and Saima Ikrik Chase face Republican independent Rep. Thomas Ikaaq Baker.
