BANGKOK, Thailand – On November 20, the criminal court sentenced Sararat Rangsiwutthaporn, known as “Am Cyanide”, to death for his involvement in the murder of a friend by poisoning him with cyanide, a highly poisonous substance, for robbery.

Am’s crimes came to light after the suspicious death of Siriporn “Koy” Khanwong, whose family refused to accept the initial explanation of natural causes.

Later investigations revealed a disturbing pattern of deaths linked to Am. Authorities have identified a total of 15 victims, 14 of whom have been confirmed to have died.

In addition to the death penalty for Am, the court also sentenced the former police officer’s wife to 1 year and 4 months in prison and decided to pay compensation to the families of the victims. Am’s lawyer was sentenced to 2 years in prison for aiding and abetting crimes.

The prosecutor and the victim’s mother jointly filed the case, seeking 30 million baht in compensation.

The court found that defendant Sararat witnessed Siriporn collapse on the scaffolding throughout the incident. Sararat showed no signs of shock or distress and did not immediately help, which was unusual for someone who claimed to be a friend. Instead, he fled the scene.

The victim’s blood samples revealed lethal levels of cyanide poison throughout his body, including his blood, stomach and liver. The poison severely affected the blood, breathing and nervous system, leading to death.

Expert testimony regarding the effects of cyanide confirmed that the victim was likely administered cyanide while in the car and began to show symptoms before reaching the dock, eventually leading to death.

Additionally, “Am” exhibited deceptive behavior by stealing the victim’s LV purse and phone. Instead of contacting the victim’s relatives or returning the belongings, he hid them in his car and hid the cyanide vial.

Blue capsules and traces of cyanide were found in various places in “Am’s car, which he used to transport “Cove”, including the front left seat and the driver’s side rear door. The evidence shows that “Am” ordered cyanide from a company and a passenger confirmed the delivery. shows photos.

The investigation also revealed that “Am” had significant debt problems amounting to tens of millions of baht. Records showed 88 transfers to online gambling accounts totaling 93 million baht, credit card debt of 2 million baht and personal loans of 3 million baht.

Suspicious transfers to gambling accounts were made day and night. There was an unusual increase in deaths among his acquaintances, especially during the period when “Am” was in debt. -819 (TNA)
