92-year-old man to stand trial in historic Bristol rape and murder case

A 92-year-old man will go on trial next year after being accused of raping and murdering an elderly woman 57 years ago.

Louisa Dunne, 75, was found strangled on the living room floor by a neighbor in Brittania Road, Easton, Bristol, on 28 June 1967.

Ryland Headley, of Clarence Road, Ipswich, was charged by Avon and Somerset Police on Wednesday following further forensic examination of some of the items.

His trial will be heard before a High Court judge on June 16 and is expected to last up to three weeks.

Mr Headley, who was taken into custody, is accused of raping and murdering Miss Dunne between 26 and 29 June 1967.

It was decided that the defense and trial preparation hearing would be held on February 14.

No application for bail was made.
