Saskatchewan RCMP still searching for man after ‘serious attacks’

Saskatchewan RCMP say officers are still searching for a man wanted in connection with serious assaults in Swift Current in October, but have arrested a second suspect.

Police are still searching for 28-year-old Matthew Neufeld, according to an RCMP press release.

Neufeld is described by RCMP as approximately five feet, eight inches tall and 145 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.

RCMP are asking people if they see Neufeld not to approach him but instead call police or Crime Stoppers.

RCMP said a second suspect, 35-year-old Nicholas Belanger, was arrested in Alberta on Nov. 19.

RCMP said he was wanted on multiple assault, robbery and firearms-related charges.

Both suspects were charged in October with breaking and entering, two counts of assault causing bodily harm, theft over $5,000, theft under $5,000 and concealment with intent to commit a crime.

Belanger is also charged with robbery, assault with a weapon and failure to comply with probation, as well as several other weapons charges.

On October 29, RCMP were called to a residence on 10th Avenue NW and determined that multiple individuals had entered the home with weapons and assaulted two people inside.

The two suspects allegedly stole money and a vehicle, which the police seized shortly after the incident.

RCMP also said they were called to an altercation on Herbert Street in Swift Current on Oct. 25 where shots were fired.

According to RCMP, the events were not random.
