Cass County Deputy investigated by ND BCI resigns

FARGO, ND (Valley News Live) – A Cass County Sheriff’s Deputy who was under investigation by the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) has resigned from the department.

Cass County Sheriff Jesse Jahner said he was contacted by BCI in September to begin an investigation into Deputy Carson Quam for alleged criminal activity. Jahner said the Sheriff’s Office is unaware of any criminal activity potentially involving Quam.

On November 21, the Sheriff’s office announced that Quam was no longer an employee of the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Jahner said the information was not released in September because another agency had an active, ongoing investigation.

“When criminal charges are brought against one of my employees, my Firm will always cooperate with investigative and prosecuting agencies to assist throughout the investigation and possible prosecution and to ensure the integrity of the case. If criminal activity is proven, it will not be tolerated. My office will always strive to appoint the best deputies to our communities to protect and serve our citizens through stringent background checks, department training, and accountability,” said Sheriff Jahner.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office said it could not comment further while the investigation and review by the Grand Forks and Cass County State’s Attorneys’ Offices is ongoing. Valley News Live will continue to follow this situation as it develops.
