After her son's testimony, the woman who killed her husband was sentenced to life imprisonment

AGRA: A Hathras court punished a woman life imprisonment for killing her husband with the help of her 17-year-old daughter in Kapasia village under Sikandrarao police station two years ago. The testimony of the woman’s 18-year-old son played an important role in securing the conviction of the 45-year-old woman.
The woman and her daughter, angry that her husband did not allow her to go out of their house, attacked her husband with a sharp weapon on August 27 and were seriously injured. Although he was referred to a hospital in Aligarh, he succumbed to his injuries two days later.
The incident came to light when the couple’s 18-year-old son filed a complaint with the police and an investigation was launched.
Police registered a case under section 302 (murder) of IPC. The indictment revealed that the frequent arguments between the couple stemmed from allegations that Singh was involved in “unethical activities”, which he opposed and prevented him from going out.
The indictment also emphasized that the woman and her daughter conspired to kill the man in anger over the man’s objections. The prosecution told the court: “The couple argued frequently and the situation escalated further when she decided to eliminate him.” The court concluded that the evidence and testimony conclusively proved Kanti Devi’s involvement in the crime, leading to a life sentence. Her daughter’s case is being heard in a juvenile court in Hathras.
During the hearing in the additional sessions court, the prosecution, led by judge Harsh Aggarwal, additional district government counsel Shivendra Chauhan, presented strong evidence, including the statement of the couple’s son. “The boy’s statement proved crucial in determining his guilt. The court sentenced him to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000, with an additional imprisonment of six months in case of non-payment of the fine,” Chauhan said. TNN
