NFL warns players after wave of theft

The NFL has issued a security alert to players about a criminal network targeting their homes.

Players were asked to increase security and be careful about what they share on social media.

This comes after the homes of Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce were burglarized last month, and a property belonging to Dallas Cowboys’ Linval Joseph was targeted last week.

An NFL security memo regarding the issue was sent to team security directors and the players’ union.

The NFL website said of the statement that it appeared the criminal organization “used public records to locate players’ addresses and conduct extensive surveillance.”

“They then monitor team schedules and the social media accounts of players and their families, often waiting until the houses are empty during games.”

Players were also asked to make it look like someone was home when they were out, for example by leaving the lights or television on.

“I can’t go into too much detail because the investigation is still ongoing,” Mahomes said when asked about the walk-in.

“But obviously it’s something you don’t want to happen to anyone else, but yourself of course.”
