Asaram Bapu approached the Supreme Court seeking postponement of life imprisonment in rape case

The Supreme Court stated that there were no exceptional grounds to allow Asaram to be temporarily released from prison while his appeal against the conviction was still pending.

This led to an immediate appeal in the superior court.

According to the plea filed through lawyers Rajesh Inamdar and Shashwat Anand, Asaram’s conviction is riddled with inconsistencies and is based solely on the uncorroborated statement of the complainant.

According to Asaram, there is no medical or independent evidence to support the accusations and he is falsely accused of discrediting her and expelling her from his Ashram.
