‘Jango’ was found guilty of grievous bodily harm in a stabbing incident on Boxing Day 2014

A jury found Ganesh Dhanraj, also known as “Jango”, guilty of grievous bodily harm in connection with a violent Boxing Day stabbing in 2014. Dhanraj’s sentence will be delivered on December 16, 2024, under the direction of Justice Navindra Singh. Demerara High Court.

The incident occurred on December 26, 2014, when the victim, Clinton Babooram, was standing outside a rum shop near his home. Dhanraj approached Babooram and stabbed him in the groin without any warning before fleeing the scene.

Babooram lost consciousness and hurried to St. He was taken to St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital.

Due to a critical blood shortage, he was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he underwent emergency surgery.

Babooram remained in hospital for three weeks following the life-threatening injury. Throughout the trial, Dhanraj was represented by defense lawyer Adrian Thompson, while prosecutors Muntaz Ali and Christopher Belfield prosecuted the case for the state.

Although he was initially charged with attempted murder, the jury returned a verdict of aggravated assault, a lesser charge.
