Atalanta travel to Parma this weekend and beat league leaders Napoli 3-0 to move into second place, just one point behind Antonio Conte.

When the league paused for the November international break, the league could not have taken a more sensitive stance, as there was only a two-point gap between the top six teams.

Atalanta’s second place is shared by Fiorentina, Inter and Lazio, who collected 25 points in the first 12 matches, while Juventus is in sixth place, just behind this group with 24 points.

It may now be time for Gian Piero Gasperini’s men to withdraw from this group, as they have won each of their last six games against Parma and Parma have won just one of their six home games this season.

Will there be a new league leader by the end of the week?

Can the unbalanced Milan beat Juventus?

Milan looked to have finally turned the corner after an impressive 3-1 win against Real Madrid in the Champions League before the international break, but they backed up that win with a disappointing 3-3 draw against Cagliari in the next league. Gezi.

Boss Paulo Fonseca does not appear to be completely out of control yet and they face a tough test against Juventus on Saturday; The Bianconeri have kept four clean sheets in their last five away matches.

Even with a tough win against a tough opponent this weekend, Milan will still have a lower points total than in each of the last four Serie A seasons.

However, any win against Juventus would be huge for Rossoneri fans and would almost certainly give Fonseca some more breathing room.

The stage is set for an exciting encounter between two equally matched sides at the San Siro.

Vieira reunited with Balotelli

It was a big week for Genoa.

First they announced the dismissal of boss Alberto Gilardino. They then confirmed that the Italy legend would be replaced by Patrick Vieira.

Serie A fans were surprised at how quickly Gilardino received the boot, and the appointment of Vieira presented a potentially awkward situation.

Mario Balotelli is a new addition to the team and the striker has a difficult history with Vieira.

They played together at Manchester City in the 2010/11 season, and the French player became Balotelli’s boss in 2018 while he was in charge of Nice.

“When it’s Mario’s turn, I want to fight back, slam him against the wall or leave him hanging from the coat rack by his collar,” Vieira said.

“But I can’t because I’m not an actor anymore.”

Let’s hope the couple will kiss and make up when they meet Cagliari this weekend.

Tinkerman returns… and it’s a baptism of fire

Roma have had a disastrous season so far. The situation became so dire after club legend Daniele De Rossi was replaced on the bench by Ivan Jurić that the only viable option was to bring back Claudio Ranieri for his third spell at the club.

When you fall into a deep hole, the experienced boss has the ability to turn things around and he did so during his previous spell in the capital in 2019. Only Luciano Spalletti (59%) and Rudi Garcia (57%) have a higher score. Winning percentage from Ranieri (56%) in Rome.

However, he will play his first match against league leader Napoli and his old enemy Antonio Conte.

Ranieri faced the Napoli boss 10 times as manager, winning only twice and losing eight of those encounters.

Perhaps even more difficult is that Napoli lost their last league game before the international break, leaving Conte with two weeks to sort things out.

Who will come out on top in this one? Derby del Sole collision?

Lautaro Martínez continues his winning streak

Inter forward Lautaro Martínez had scored in two of the last three matches he played in Serie A before the international break, and he somehow continued this form in the match against Argentina.

His stunning goal against Peru put him in the top five goalscorers of all time for La Albiceleste and he is neck-and-neck with Diego Maradona on 32.

Martínez will return to earth this weekend as the Nerazzurri face Hellas Verona, but the stats look good for him in that regard.

The 1.70 tall marksman scored six goals in eight matches against Veronese, while only Christian Vieri (seven) and Roberto Boninsenga (nine) scored more goals against this opponent for Inter.
