Mother who killed her 7-year-old son pleaded guilty

A woman admitted killing her seven-year-old son in a “tragic case”, a court heard.

Louis Linse died in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, on 10 January.

Papaipit Linse, 43, pleaded guilty to manslaughter but denied murder at a hearing at Swansea Crown Court on Friday.

Speaking only to confirm her name and convey her request, Linse appeared on the dock with short black hair and wearing a gray hoodie.

The charge of manslaughter was accepted by Caroline Rees KC, appearing for the prosecution.

Linse will be sentenced on December 13.

Ms Rees said the prosecution was reviewing the case in the light of the defense and the psychiatric report.

“(We) will accept defenses to involuntary manslaughter, which we understand amounts to diminished responsibility,” he said.

“In this case, there will be no need for trial.”

The court heard Linse was detained at the Caswell Clinic, a medium-security mental health unit.

Addressing Linse, Judge Paul Thomas KC said: “This is a case that is both sensitive and tragic.

“I will punish you on December 13.”

Dyfed-Powys Police said Linse called emergency services to report the death of her son, who was found in bed.

Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Gary Williams said: “This was a tragic incident where officers responded to the death of a young child at the hands of his mother.

“Despite arriving at an extremely challenging and emotional scene, all those present acted with professionalism and care, with the common goal of conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances.

“My team and I have worked tirelessly since January to hold Linse accountable for Louis’ death and ensure justice is served.

“Our thoughts are with everyone who knew and loved Louis.”

Louis was pronounced dead at Withybush General Hospital after police were called to an address on Upper Market Street.

In January, coroner Pc Carrie Sheridan told Pembrokeshire Coroner’s Court: “At 10.44am on Wednesday, January 10, police received an emergency call regarding the suspicious death of a child.

“He was taken to Withybush General Hospital. “Despite all the efforts of the emergency services at the scene and the medical staff at the hospital, it was announced that the person died at 12:00 on Wednesday, January 10.”
