Houston arson suspect charged with murder in death of firefighter Marcelo Garcia

HOUSTON – Woman accused of sparking warehouse fire Houston firefighter Marcelo Garcia Court records show the deceased was charged with murder.

Yesenia Espinoza Mendez, 38, is currently facing aggravated murder charges as well as arson.

Authorities say Espinoza Mendez is responsible for the Nov. 6 warehouse fire on Supply Row.

Garcia died when a wall suddenly collapsed while fighting the fire. Another injured firefighter was taken to the hospital.

Garcia was 42 years old and had been with the department for 10 years. He spent the last six years at Station 23.
