Couple accused of burglary at construction site in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – A couple accused of stealing at a string of construction sites in Lincoln is facing charges in Lancaster County.

On October 10, the Lincoln Police Department opened an investigation into several construction burglaries in the city. Police wrote that LPD received a tip that 26-year-old Ricardo Martinez was somehow involved in the theft and was seen leaving and returning with tools.

After further investigation, LPD identified Martinez and his girlfriend, 33-year-old Keilyn Acosta, as suspects.

Court documents allege Martinez and Acosta pawned large amounts of stolen tools on several separate occasions, which repeatedly overlapped with burglary, theft or similar crimes. Police wrote that some of the pawned tools had markings on them identifying their owners.

According to documents, officers contacted Martinez at the Lancaster County Jail; because he was already being detained for an unrelated incident. Acosta was arraigned Wednesday and sent to jail.

Martinez was charged with two counts of theft and his bond was set at 10 percent of $50,000. He has a hearing on December 11.

Acosta was charged with one count of theft. His bond is set at 10 percent of $5,000 and he is due back in court on Dec. 30.
