Contract signed for repair of Ringgold Rail Trail bridge

PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ/Pittsylvania County Release) – A contract has been awarded for: Pittsylvania County bridge repair.

Ringgold Rail RoadSandy Creek Bridge was damaged by floodwaters from Tropical Storm Michael in 2018. The county says use of the bridge has been deemed unsafe for the past six years and runners, walkers and cyclists are not allowed to cross the 3.5-mile distance. The entire kilometer track.

The Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors awarded Haymes Brothers Inc. for the bridge reconstruction. signed a contract with the company for $3,972,218.

The county has been working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency since 2018 to secure funding to repair the bridge, but costs have exceeded the agreed upon amount. Last July, the Board approved an agreement with the Virginia Department of Emergency Management to increase the pilot project budget by $2,128,593.

According to the pre-bid document, the county says the work includes site grading, replacement of damaged pier, erosion and sediment control, site stabilization, and cleanup and scarification.

The project is expected to be completed in late 2026, with Haymes Brothers estimating that 730 consecutive days will be required to complete construction.
