The Fleming County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) posted on Facebook just after 12:30 a.m. Thursday that Fleming County Dispatch received a 911 call from 68-year-old Michael Jones, who said a possible burglary had occurred in the 1000 block of Covered Bridge Road. He reported that he said he was coming. Wallingford.

When law enforcement arrived on scene, deputies reportedly attempted to contact Jones, but he did not answer the door. Court documents show he was “barely visible behind the refrigerator inside the house.”

While deputies were allegedly trying to communicate with him, they saw Jones grab his shotgun and begin raising it toward the window where a deputy was standing.

Court documents show deputies hid behind a cruiser before Jones “began shooting into the front windows of the residence” where deputies were said to be standing.
