Queen Elizabeth II Elizabeth tells close friend why she’s ‘guilt conscious’

For more than thirty years, Queen Elizabeth II Elizabeth had a close friendship with an American cowboy.

His unusual bond with the British monarch Monty Roberts is a horse trainer from California. It is examined in the documentary “The Cowboy and the Queen”. It details how Roberts, with the queen’s support, introduced his training methods to the United Kingdom.

Britain’s longest-reigning monarch died in 2022, aged 96. Roberts, St. Louis at Windsor Castle. He was invited to his funeral in St. George’s Chapel.

“My wife and I have been married for 68 years, but horses are my second love,” Roberts told Fox News Digital. “… “Your Majesty and I shared a deep love for horses. And getting to know him was a wonderful time in my life.”

In his youth, Roberts worked closely with American mustangs and learned how to train the horses humanely. His humane method of “initiating” young or wild horses—teaching them how to accept a saddle and rider without enduring the violence of “breaking”—was considered revolutionary. UK Times reported. Roberts became known as the “horse whisperer.”

And in 1989, he caught the attention of the queen.

“I was definitely into horses,” Roberts explained. “I wasn’t into the human thing at the time. Some racehorse trainers in California came to me and said, ‘Oh my God, this is the way we have to go.’ “They said, ‘It’s better than what we did, with all the beatings and bindings and tying the front legs with ropes and all that.'”

“…We had three or four open houses here for trainers of California racehorses,” he shared. “There were magazine writers here just to see what was going on. And they wrote their stories… The Queen was buying those magazines and reading about this crazy thing called nonviolent education.”

According to Roberts, the curious queen shared the articles with the horse manager. He described Roberts’ techniques as “nonsense” and insisted that “this is not real at all”. Still, the queen sent him to california To watch Roberts in action. He wanted to know if she was really the real deal.

“He came and watched me,” Roberts said. “He said, ‘I want to see another one, I want to see another one’. I built about four horses for him. He came back (to England) and said to him, ‘This is real’. And he said, ‘I want him here’.”

Roberts admitted the first time he received the call stating this: queen of england wanted to meet him, thought it was a joke. But soon he and his wife, Pat, flew across the pond to Windsor Castle, where the queen was waiting for him with 23 horses.

“I was going to be there for five days,” he said. “He had 23 horses in the pastures in front of his bedroom, and he could see if there was anyone messing with these horses, cheating in any way. There were people there protecting these horses… He brought a horse that he gave to his mother, it never had a saddle, it never had a rider on its back… Twenty-six minutes Then there was a rider on me and a saddle on his back.”

The UK Times reported that Roberts used “body language and gentle encouragement” rather than ropes and whips. He noted that traditionally training horses would take four to six weeks.

Roberts claimed the queen walked towards him “in a dazed state”.

“He said, ‘I feel so much remorse,'” he said. “‘I should have told my father that I wanted to (learn) non-violent ways to train horses. And now I know it’s possible.'”

“From that moment on, we became close friends as horses brought us together,” he added.

Roberts learned that the queen learned to ride a horse when she was about 6 years old. Back then he had to put up with seeing horses being broken the “old fashioned” way. Although she tried to hide, the young princess was told repeatedly that “This must be done.”

“He said: ‘My conscience is so guilty. I should have told my father that I wanted to (learn) non-violent ways to train horses. And now I know it’s possible.'”

“His whole life he’s been told, ‘This has to be done,'” Roberts said. “Can you imagine me coming in 1989 when he was in his 70s and saying, ‘It doesn’t need to be done this way?’ From then on, not a single horse belonging to him was hit… And if you (hit) a horse, you need another job.”

The Queen’s friendship with Roberts and the lessons he learned were met with criticism. Still, he wasn’t impressed. Instead, he called on Roberts to demonstrate his methods in front of family members and skeptical palace aides.

According to the UK Times, the queen introduced Roberts to horse breeders, traditional trainers and other equine advisors. He also found Roberts a publisher and encouraged him to write his best-selling book, “The Man Who Listened to Horses.” His patronage not only helped spread his teaching worldwide but also saved his career.

“He… invited me to places I can’t tell you about,” Roberts said. “They were little huts in trees in various places. She and Prince Philip would go there… the dogs would go with them.”

Roberts said that the statues made by his wife were placed on private properties by the queen. Eventually, Roberts was also given the honor of naming one of the queen’s prized corgis after her. According to the UK Times, Roberts became a member of the Victorian Order. The Queen is also patron of the charity Join-Up International, which provides gentle horse training and helps military veterans as well as first responders suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

Roberts claimed that the frequent phone calls between him and the queen ended after the queen’s death. I was diagnosed with bone cancer. We were told that the monarch was suffering and that all communication had to go through his doctors. Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson claimed in his memoirs published this year that the queen had bone cancer before her death.

Today, Roberts likes to remember the happier moments spent with her friend.

“While I was on my way, I got a call from the queen… She said, ‘Princess Margaret is with me, I want my sister and your whole team to stop by Windsor Castle,'” he recalled. “You’ll show me how you got here as a cowboy.”

Roberts set out for Windsor Castle. He remembered watching The Queen speaks to Princess Margaret outside the round pen. The younger brother was “scared to death” that the horses would “run away and kill him.”

“I was going back and forth and answering Princess Margaret’s questions,” Roberts said. “And whenever the queen came to ask me a question, I would take off my cowboy hat.”

“About the fourth time he came and said: ‘Monty, not all men have to take their hats off when they talk to the queen.’ I said: ‘I thought so, your majesty. I was told that you must take off your hat when speaking to the queen, and that makes sense to me?’

“He said, ‘Now listen carefully. If you’re wearing a uniform, you don’t need to take your hat off. All the men guarding me around this building are in uniform, and I can talk to any of them, and they don’t need to take their hat off because they’re in uniform.'”

“I looked at myself and said, ‘This is how I dress,'” Roberts continued. “The Queen tapped me on the shoulder and said, ‘I call this your uniform.’ I never saw her without these clothes again… I’m still in uniform.”
