In court discussions, which could not be explained until the verdict, it was revealed that a group of masked men raided Hand’s house on June 14, 2024. According to lawyer John Gordon, the attackers broke the windows, entered the bedroom and stabbed the boyfriend. He tried to defend Hand and his daughter. Hand’s boyfriend suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital. Gardaí (Irish police) have confirmed the incident and are investigating.

Although no direct connection to McGregor has been made, Gordon suggested the attack may have stemmed from Hand’s lawsuit against the fighter.

“We’re not laying this at the feet of the defendants or saying they had anything to do with it,” he said, adding that the attack highlighted Hand’s anxiety and decision to relocate.

Hand’s legal victory is being hailed as a pivotal moment in the consent debate in Ireland. The Dublin Rape Crisis Center highlighted the importance of the case and Judge Owens explained that “compliance is not consent” and drinking or taking drugs “does not mean they are prepared to have sex”.

McGregor confirmed this on social media Plans to appeal the decision.
