Arkansas TE opting for transfer portal, report says

Arkansas tight end Var’Keyes Gumms was dismissed from the Razorbacks in October. The talented TE will now officially enter the transfer portal and play elsewhere in 2025.

Gumms played in 5 games for the Razorbacks in 2024, catching 1 pass for 0 yards. The TE transferred to Arkansas ahead of the 2023 season and will finish his Arkansas career playing 14 games with the team with 4 catches for 26 yards.

Gumms’ best season came as a freshman at North Texas in 2022. The TE caught 34 passes for 458 yards with 5 TDs. Following this impressive performance, Gumms became a Second-Team Freshman All-American and became a hot commodity in the transfer portal.

Arkansas eventually secured Gumms, but the talented TE never got a foothold in Fayetteville.

In 2024, Gumms falls behind other TEs on the depth chart. Luke Hasz was the team’s leading TE, catching 21 passes for 278 yards. Andreas Paaske and Shamar Easter managed to take a position ahead of Gumms this season. Ty Washington is another TE who was cut from the team in October.

The Razorbacks have 2 games left in 2024 and are 1 win away from earning bowl eligibility. In week 13, the team will host Louisiana Tech. The team will wrap up the regular season with a rivalry game against Missouri.
