Heavy rains caused floods in the West and North | Local news

Severe storm activity caused heavy rainfall and led to severe flooding in parts of Western and Northern Trinidad yesterday afternoon.

Flash flooding occurred in Barataria, San Juan, as well as Carenage and West Main Road in Glencoe, Maraval and Diego Martin.

North Coast Road closed due to landslides.

According to the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government, there is water in Petit Valley near St Lucien Road, Western Main Road near Shorelands, Cocorite, Diamond Vale, La Sieva in Maraval and Morne Coco Road. The raid was reported.

Blue Basin, Gittens Boulevard in Maraval and Saddle Road in Santa Cruz were also affected.

Yesterday, dozens of people shared on social media how their vehicles and property were affected.

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) posted on its Facebook page that the storm activity was associated with the passage of a low-level trough, in addition to local impacts such as orographic uplift and daytime warming.

“The combination of these features was significant enough to cause storms to develop rapidly, mainly affecting the northern parts of Trinidad. So far, there have been reports of flash flooding in parts of North West Trinidad, as well as street flooding. TTMS reports trees down in these areas.” “There are also reports,” he said.

TTMS predicted that intermittent showers will continue today. “As the chute progresses through the area. There is a moderate (40%) chance of isolated storm activity, so there will be a risk of street flooding and high winds. “Moisture and low-level convergence will continue in the region, so occasional showers and thunderstorms are likely to remain in the forecast for at least the next few days,” he added.

Photos of the Carenage Fish Fry and other locations along the Western Main Road went viral on social media yesterday.

Diego Martin Mayor Akliah Glasgow-Warner informed the public via social media that the Diego Martin Regional Corporation’s Disaster Management Unit is located on Orchid Drive, Petit Valley and for filled sandbags can be contacted at 800-DMRC (3672)/633-9620 reported. Help keep homes safe.
