Flooding closes major Shropshire A-road while car parks close in Shrewsbury as river levels rise

National Highways said the A49 was closed in both directions. Church Stretton and Holmer around 10:40 a.m. Sunday.

Nearby, flooding has also closed the A456 at Woofferton and a fallen tree was reported to have blocked the A488 Ffrydd Road from Monaughty to Knighton.

Elsewhere in the county, preparations were underway to deal with the aftermath of Storm Bert.

Shropshire Council has closed both Frankwell Main and Riverside car parks to cars coming into Shrewsbury due to rising river levels.
