In a shocking case that has shaken Norway, a former village doctor is on trial accused of raping 87 women aged between 14 and 67 over 20 years and filming the events in his office and homes. This case is described as the biggest sexual abuse scandal in Norwegian history.

Arne Bye, 55, was accused of abusing his position to have sexual relations with 94 women, including two children, at the time of the alleged attacks. The oldest woman allegedly raped was 67 years old, while the youngest victims were 14 and 15 years old. Sun.

Bye, a former city inspector, pleaded guilty to three counts of rape and 35 counts of misconduct and faced up to 21 years in prison. Police seized more than 6,000 hours of video material containing recordings of gynecological examinations performed without patients’ knowledge.

Disturbing Details of the Surface of Bye’s Crimes

According to the indictment, Bye allegedly inserted a “deodorant-like,” “bottle-like” and cylindrical object into the women for no apparent medical reason. In a shocking statement given in court, a woman said her experience was so painful she thought she was “going to die”.

The woman, identified as Woman 18, told the court on Wednesday that she went to the doctor’s office for a sore throat but was examined on the bench in her underwear. “I thought he was my doctor, so I did what he said,” he said.

All the women described unpleasant, invasive experiences during their gynecological exams and said Bye gave them “abdominal massages.” This event shocked the small Norwegian town of Frosta, because Bye had long been a public figure and doctor to hundreds of residents living there. years.

Defendants Filmed Patients During Examinations

The court was shown graphic video evidence, all recorded by Bye, during the examinations. ‘We have video recordings of the attack. State prosecutor Richard Haugen Lyng said: “In this sense, we have a very special evidentiary situation in the case; the prosecutor says that a large part of the indictment is illustrated by video material.” he said.

Bye claimed that he filmed the appointments because he was afraid patients would sue and that he never watched the videos except for those related to the case. A bideo showed Bye placing several cameras around a woman as he began examining her.

Bye initially insisted that his examination of Woman 18 was not of a sexual nature, but later partially admitted the rape charge in court. Another woman stated that although she had no abdominal complaints, he told her to sit in the gynecologist’s chair several times and that the examinations took a painfully long time.

It was reported that the woman’s daughter and sister were among the victims of the case. Police launched the investigation into Bye’s actions in August 2022 after health authorities warned them of possible criminal activity. He was allowed to continue his duties until a police report was filed in 2023.

Despite the serious charges against him, Bye was not arrested; officers said they would continue to monitor the situation but there was currently no basis for his arrest while the trial was ongoing.
