Hudson Valley Man Sentenced for Violent 2017 Home Invasion

Westchester County resident Oscar Castillo, 37, of Yonkers, was sentenced Monday, Nov. 18, Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler said.

He was also sentenced to five years of post-release supervision.

The sentence stems from Castillo’s pleading guilty in 2023 to burglary charges related to a 2017 incident in Washingtonville. Castillo, who initially escaped punishment by not appearing in court, was arrested under a warrant issued in 2024.

The 2017 burglary involved breaking into a home on Cardinal Drive, where Castillo and another masked man who was armed and claimed to be an FBI agent confronted the homeowner, according to court documents. The homeowner was injured in the brawl.

Crucial DNA evidence linked Castillo to the crime, which led to his arrest in 2021 with the assistance of New York State Parole.

Hoovler praised the combined efforts of local and state law enforcement in bringing Castillo to justice and highlighted the sophisticated use of DNA technology in solving the case.
