Pathanamthitta: A youth died in an accident in Thiruvalla Muthoor on Sunday after his neck got entangled in the rope across the road. The deceased Sayed (32), a native of Thakazhi, Alappuzha, was traveling with his wife and children when the accident occurred.

Lack of visibility led to the fatal incident. Sayed, who was injured in the accident, died at the scene, while his wife and children were also injured.
According to eyewitnesses, since there was no personnel to stop the vehicles or provide security, many passengers lifted the ropes and crossed the road. A red ribbon was added to the rope only after the accident, before only a few leaves were left on it.

Neighborhood residents blamed the negligence of those doing the work and stated that the accident could have been prevented if appropriate precautions were taken, such as assigning someone to manage traffic. The police launched an investigation into the incident.

The Kerala State Human Rights Commission launched a case of its own over Syed’s death. Commissioner VK Beenakumari directed Alappuzha District Police Chief to investigate the incident and submit a detailed report within 15 days. The case was taken up following media reports. The commission described the incident as “gross negligence” and called for “accountability”.
