Police ID victim in Kansas City home burglary murder

KANSAS CITY — Law enforcement investigating a fatal shooting during a burglary identified the victim as Craig L. Scott, 51, of Lee’s Summit, according to a police statement.

The suspect in the investigation has been identified as 31-year-old Keith J. Marshall of Kansas City, MO. The defendant was charged Saturday by Jackson County Prosecutors with 2nd Degree Murder, two counts of Armed Criminal Mischief, 1st Degree Burglary, and unlawful use of a weapon; Bond was set at $250,000 cash.

Just after 8am. Friday, police responded to a disturbance call in the 2100 block of SW Rutherford Drive. The 911 caller stated that a man, later identified as Scott, was shot inside the residence. The caller also stated that the suspect was someone they knew. When police officers entered the house, they found Scott dead. The suspect fled the scene before the police arrived and surrendered to the police a few hours later. Detectives are also trying to determine the timeline of events leading up to the shooting.
