A huge fire broke out in the big city, leaving thousands homeless | World News

A huge fire broke out in a nearby slum area in Manila, the capital of the Philippines.

The Manila Fire District said about 1,000 houses were completely destroyed in the fire, leaving thousands of people behind. homeless.

There has been no loss of life so far in the fire, which is estimated to have broken out on the second floor of a house.

Drone footage of the flames shows houses plummeting to the ground in Manila’s Isla Puting Bato village.

The mass housing housed more than 2,000 families, according to the city’s fire department.

Local resident Leonila Abiertas, 65, said she lost almost all her belongings in the fire but luckily was able to save her late husband’s ashes.

“I just took the urn with my husband’s ashes,” she told AFP.

‘I really don’t know how I can start my life over again after this fire.’

Senior Inspector Alejandro Ramos, chief of intelligence and investigation of the Manila Fire Department, said most of the houses are made of lightweight, flammable materials and are therefore highly flammable.

The Philippine Air Force deployed two aircraft to assist in fighting the fire, which took eight hours to extinguish. local news reported.

“We will ensure that evacuees receive cash assistance, food and materials to rebuild their homes through our local government,” Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna said in a statement.
