Closing date for long-running Redwood Swap Meet announced

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – Despite quixotic efforts to stay open in the fight against redevelopment, West Valley City’s iconic Redwood Drive-In and Swap Meet is just weeks away from officially ending.

The long-running event, which has served area residents for decades, will end on Sunday, December 22, organizers announced.

The closing date comes after a fight to block EDGEhomes’ plans to transform the Redwood Drive-In site into 40 condos and 244 townhomes.

Although the final swap meet is still weeks away, sellers are expected to complete the work even earlier due to winter weather conditions.

The site’s property owners told the city they wanted to sell because operations, including the swap meet, were “unprofitable.”

In September, West Valley City Council votes to rezone site to enable housing development, leaving many who depend on the area for their livelihood wondering what to do next.

“I’m asking right now: Is there a place here? Where can they find us? Because we’re ready to move. We just need help,” seller Maya Dominguez said in September.

Redwood Drive-In first opened in 1948; The swap meet began decades ago and remains open on weekends year-round.
