Brock Purdy and Nick Bosa will be out for San Francisco 49ers’ game against Green Bay Packers

The San Francisco 49ers will be without their two best players on offense and defense in their critical game against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

Quarterback Brock Purdy and offensive lineman Nick Bosa will not be included in the game, coach Kyle Shanahan said Friday. Additionally, the 49ers could be without left tackle Trent Williams.

The pain in Purdy’s right shoulder was severe enough to miss the first game of his three-year career. Backup Brandon Allen will start against the Packers. Shanahan said he doesn’t think Purdy’s injury will be a long-term issue. But the severity of the pain surprised the 49ers.

Purdy was a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice and pitched lightly before Thursday’s practice, but left the session early, causing concern.

“I don’t want to say it’s a long-term concern, you know we had an MRI on Monday, we just thought he needed some rest and we weren’t really concerned about him not being well this week,” Shanahan told reporters on Friday. . “But when he left on Thursday it surprised him, and it surprised us how he felt. So we had to shut it down and I don’t really know what to think about it. The MRI doesn’t show that, so it’s okay, but based on his reaction this week, there’s nothing definite for next week. So we’ll have to see on Monday.”

There were concerns about Bosa, who left the game in the third quarter with right side soreness and did not return last week in the 49ers’ Week 12 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Bosa was ruled out due to both hip and oblique leg injuries.

Williams’ decision will be made after testing her ankle during pre-match warm-ups. Even though he hasn’t practiced all week, the team is optimistic he will play.
