Police say man robbed Chicago-area gaming cafe and kicked police officer

Police in the north suburbs Lake District a man said I robbed the game cafe and later kicked a police officer as police tried to restrain him in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Lake County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the cafe in the 34500 block of Route 45 in Third Lake around 1:15 a.m. and found a shattered front glass door and clear evidence of a burglary, police said. They also found fresh blood inside the cafe.

When deputies searched the area, they found 36-year-old Gilberto Mojarro-Garcia with fresh cuts on his hands and arms and blood stains on his clothing. Deputies also found a stolen, damaged cash register nearby.

Gilberto Mojarro-Garcia, 36, was arrested in connection with the robbery of a gaming cafe in northern suburban Lake County.

Police said security footage from the casino confirmed Mojarro-Garcia’s alleged involvement in the theft. Deputies arrested him at the scene.

Police said Mojarro-Garcia kicked in the door while he was in the squad car. When deputies attempted to further restrain him, he kicked one of the deputies, although he was uninjured.

After officers took Mojarro-Garcia to the Lake County Jail, police said his “aggressive behavior” escalated, prompting officers to use pepper spray, but they did not specify what specific behavior caused that response.

Mojarro-Garcia was later charged with two counts of battery, aggravated battery on a peace officer, destruction of property, destruction of government property and resisting arrest. He was being held in the Lake County Jail while awaiting an initial hearing Sunday morning.

Lake County Sheriff’s police are investigating whether he is connected to other burglaries reported in the area last week.
