IMPD says 3 dead in Indianapolis shootings

Three people were killed in separate incidents in Indianapolis between Saturday night and late Sunday afternoon, according to Indianapolis Police. The deaths came amid 11 separate reports of shootings to which IMPD officers responded throughout the night and into Sunday.

A man died from gunshot wounds Saturday night after police responded to the 2400 block of East 38th Street. Close to McDonald’s restaurant location. The man was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died, according to police.

Later, early Sunday, IMPD officers responded 4215 E. New York St. on the east side, where a man was found dead and another man was in critical condition from gunshot wounds.

Around 3:30 Sunday afternoon, officers responded to the 5800 block of Outer Bank Road, southeast of Beech Grove, where a man was found dead from a gunshot wound. Marion County Coroner’s Office and IMPD homicide detectives later determined the person’s cause of death was an overdose.

Amid shootings that were not reported fatal, police officers responded to a man in critical condition with a gunshot wound at Riley Children’s Hospital on Saturday night. No details about the victim’s age were released by IMPD as of Sunday morning.

Police also responded to the following locations early Sunday following reports of people shot. It was reported that all of those injured in these incidents were awake and breathing.

  • An injured person entered Eskenazi Hospital.
  • One person entered IU Health Methodist Hospital injured.
  • 2300 block of East 40thThis Street. Officers responded to this location but were unable to locate the victim. They believe the person entered Community East Hospital.
  • 2300 block of North Lasalle Street
  • 4000 block of Southeast Boulevard
  • 4000 block of Congaree Drive
  • 2500 block of South Randolph Street
