At a press conference on Monday evening, Herndon Police Department He announced that 31-year-old Denis Humberto Naverrette Romero was accused of kidnapping a stranger he caught on the road with the intention of defiling and raping him.

“I want to start by saying that I am incredibly sorry and outraged that a crime like this could occur here in the town of Herndon,” Herndon Police Chief Maggie DeBoard said.

“This is the only stranger rape we’ve had in town in my 12-plus years as police chief,” DeBoard continued.

DeBoard said just before 9 p.m. Monday evening, officers responded to a W on D warrant regarding a woman who approached a passerby and pleaded for help, claiming she had been raped.

The victim told police that Romero brazenly grabbed her, forced her to the ground and began raping her.

Fortunately, the victim was able to fight off Romero and escape to get help. Police managed to locate Romero shortly after the attack.

Upon further investigation, officers uncovered his criminal history and believe there may be more victims and additional witnesses to his crime on Monday night.

“What’s disturbing is how many times this person He was arrested and released. “He continued to reoffend and his behavior escalated into rape in a public place in our town last night,” DeBoard said.

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin also issued a statement regarding the incident and was outraged that local officials allowed Romero back on the streets.

“I feel heartbroken for this victim and outrage that local Fairfax County officials are recklessly releasing violent illegal immigrants who should be prosecuted and deported. This is a dereliction of their most basic duty to keep people safe,” Youngkin wrote in a post on X. he said.

“Prioritizing violent illegal immigrants over the safety of Fairfax residents is unacceptable. Virginia is not a sanctuary state. With President Trump in office, political posturing will end and locals will cooperate with ICE to protect Virginians.”

Romero is currently being held without bail in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

“I want our community to know that you should feel safe here in town knowing that this individual was quickly removed from our streets and remains in custody. We will do everything in our power to keep him in custody,” DeBoard vowed.
