Mayor announces holiday parking meter fees will be suspended in downtown Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Starting Monday, residents and visitors to Downtown Wilkes-Barre will be able to take advantage of parking meter fee suspensions throughout the holiday season.

On Sunday, Mayor George Brown announced that the City of Wilkes-Barre will suspend parking meter fees for the holiday season in the Downtown Wilkes-Barre business district.

Winter train shows now open until January

The fee will be suspended from 8 a.m. on Monday, November 25, 2025, until Monday, January 6, 2025, officials said.

Officials say there will be fare suspensions in the following areas.

  • Union Street north

  • Franklin Street west

  • South Street in the south

  • Washington Street east

Officials announced that visitors and residents have been warned that all metering practices not within the designated area will remain in full force.

According to Mayor Brown, suspending the parking meter fee will encourage locals and visitors to shop in stores, dine at downtown restaurants and enjoy area events.
