District prosecutor decides not to file a case against Koshi MP Lilaballabh Adhikari

Kathmandu District Prosecutor’s Office has decided not to pursue any case in court against Koshi state assembly member Lilaballabh Adhikari. arrested On allegations of human trafficking.

Citing nine reasons for the decision, District Attorney Sandesh Shrestha said there was not enough evidence to file a case against Adhikari, who is also a former minister of the state, over human trafficking allegations.

Shreshta stated that Adhikari’s voluntary disclosure to the Nepal Police regarding the case at Narita Airport in Japan was the main reason for not pursuing the case. While other suspects were deported by Japanese authorities, Adhikari returned ‘voluntarily’ at his own request.

“The investigation found no evidence linking Adhikari to the crime. The statements of other suspects did not implicate him and he was not named in initial statements, including those of key accused Mahesh Pandey.” “The lawyer’s decision,” he said. “CCTV footage at Tribhuvan International Airport showed Adhikari traveling alone and there was no record of any communication with the arrested suspects through call details or WhatsApp messages.”

According to the prosecution, forensic examination of the forged signatures in the case revealed that they did not match Adhikari’s handwriting, and it was determined that his alleged meeting with other suspects such as Kanchan Devkota took place only during transit in Hong Kong.

The prosecutor’s decision to drop the charges raised questions about the evidence presented against Adhikari, while some called for more transparency in the investigation.

Nepal police arrested Adhikari, former home and law minister of Koshi State, from Biratnagar on November 10.
