WRU to form group of ‘national interest’ players aged 15-24

The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) is set to launch a new group of men’s players of “national interest” to help increase the depth of talent in Wales.

Up to 60 players aged 15-24 will be selected each year and offered an additional program to accelerate their development along the existing pathway.

The WRU says it will give players the best chance of representing counties, Wales’ age-group teams and ultimately the senior team.

Players will have dedicated sessions to enhance their technical, tactical and physical development, receive mentoring from recently retired professional players and have the opportunity to observe the Wales senior team in training.
