Women in India blame police mishandling of cases for ever-increasing sexual crimes

It has been more than three months since the rape and murder of a junior doctor in Kolkata sparked outrage across India. A volunteer police officer is currently on trial for the crimes. But concerns about police mishandling of sexual assault cases have done little to improve women’s safety. On this International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, Neha Poonia looks at victims and the system they say is failing them.
