Iran’s religious leader seeks death penalty for Netanyahu and Gallant

Khamenei said about Netanyahu and former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant: “They issued an arrest warrant, this is not enough… These criminal leaders should be given the death penalty.”

In their ruling, the ICC judges said there were reasonable grounds to believe that Netanyahu and Gallant were criminally responsible for acts including murder, persecution and starvation as weapons of war as part of a “widespread and systematic attack on the civilian population of Gaza”.

The decision was met with outrage in Israel, calling it shameful and absurd. Gaza residents expressed hope that this would help end the violence and bring those responsible for war crimes to justice.

Israel has rejected the Hague-based court’s jurisdiction and denied war crimes in Gaza.

The arrest warrant for Hamas leader Ibrahim Al-Masri lists accusations of mass murder during October 7, 2023, attacks against Israel that triggered the war on the long-blockaded Palestinian territory, as well as accusations of rape and hostage-taking. .

An estimated 1,200 Israelis were killed in the 2023 Hamas offensive, and 43,000 Palestinians died in the ongoing war in Gaza.

Israel said Killed Masri, also known as Mohammed DeifIt carried out an airstrike in July, but Hamas neither confirmed nor denied it.
