Heavy rain expected for 5 days in TN coastal areas due to deep depression: IMD

Coastal and delta regions of Tamil Nadu are likely to experience heavy rainfall activity for the next five days from November 26 due to deep depression moving towards the Sri Lanka-Tamil Nadu coast, Chennai Regional Meteorological Center said on Monday.

Under its influence, heavy rains are expected to occur at isolated places in Ramanathapuram, Tiruchirappalli, Perambalur, Kallakurichi and Chengalpattu districts.

The RMC bulletin stated that heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at a few places in Cuddalore and Mayiladuthurai districts and Karaikal district, and extremely heavy rain is likely to occur at one or two places.

It was stated that Ariyalur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Villuppuram, Puducherry, Sivaganga, Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Ranipet and Tiruvannamalai districts are likely to receive very heavy rainfall.

“The depression over the central parts of the southern Bay of Bengal (BOB) and the adjacent Eastern Equatorial Indian Ocean moved west-northwestwards and is today centered over the southwestern BOB and the adjacent Eastern Equatorial Indian Ocean near Trincomalee, Nagapattinam and Puducherry,” he said.

In the bulletin, it was stated that this system, which moves almost to the northwest, will turn into a deep depression and will probably move towards the coasts of Sri Lanka-Tamil Nadu.
