Marion County couple arrested on child neglect charges

GRANT TOWN, W.Va (WDTV) – A Marion County couple was arrested and charged with child neglect Friday.

In May, four children were removed from the custody of 56-year-old Daniel Perkins and 34-year-old Samantha Perkins after deputies responded with CPS to a home on Hecks Run Road in Grant Town for a report of child abuse.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, when deputies arrived at the scene they found a 13-year-old boy with blood and bruises. The boy told police that Daniel and Samantha beat him, according to court documents.

At the scene, deputies found trash strewn about the front of the home, along with a eroded staircase leading to the front door. When deputies entered the home, they found trash and dirt on the floor and a strong odor of raw sewage coming from the bathroom, according to court documents. Inside the bathroom, there was raw sewage overflowing from the toilet and a fly infestation.

Deputies found three children, ages 1 to 11, in one of the bedrooms. A 3-year-old boy, who appeared to be malnourished, was wearing a feeding tube and was lying on the floor on a dirty mattress, according to court documents. The children were later taken into state protection.

Daniel and Samantha were arrested on November 22.

Daniel is charged with child abuse and child neglect causing bodily injury, and Samantha is charged with child neglect causing bodily injury. Both are currently being held in the North Central Regional Jail on $50,000 bail each.
