Tobacco shop employee speaks after the suspect who attempted rape caught on camera surrendered himself

MIAMI SPRINGS, Fla. – Police have arrested a man following an alarming attack on a woman at a South Florida tobacco shop.

Authorities say 30-year-old Tyrone Armbrister He surrendered to Miami Springs police over the weekend..

On Monday, the victim of the attack expressed gratitude and joy knowing her attacker was behind bars.

“It’s definitely going to leave a mark on me forever,” victim Aiihleen told Local 10 News’ Rosh Lowe.

She survived the rape attempt by resisting Armbrister with her fists and the plunger. The attack was captured on security camera.

He said he was happy to have her in custody now and was grateful for the support he was given after the incident.

“I’m grateful to God and everyone who worked for this,” he said. “You guys, the police, the Miami Springs police were amazing.”

While being booked into jail, Armbrister told Local 10 News he was drunk at the time of the attack.

He also suggested that someone might have added something to his drink, which could have caused him to act that way.

“I’m really sorry,” he said. “I hope he’s okay. I came back because someone had to take responsibility. I made a mistake by drinking too much, and that’s where I went wrong. “I allowed something to be put in my drink without paying attention.”

Local 10’s Cody Weddle asked Armbrister if he had ever committed similar action.

“No,” he replied. “That’s why I was shocked when I saw the video.”

The victim said she also heard Armbrister’s apology and the allegations behind his action.

“Drugs don’t do that to a person, it’s more of a moral situation,” he said.

Armbrister is expected to appear in court again on Tuesday.
