I Interviewed More Than 1,600 People to Learn the Five Key Reasons Why Men and Women Cheat | Charles J. Orlando

What makes a person in a marriage or serious relationship want to cheat? This is an age-old question we are all looking for an answer to. Despite research suggesting Cheating gene is engraved in some men’s DNA (really? *rolls eyes*), the real answer depends on whether you’re talking about a woman or a man. Many reliable infidelity studies have found that men and women who cheat on their spouses give different reasons to justify their extramarital affairs.

Infidelity was one of the topics I addressed in my research with over 1,200 women and over 400 men. The Problem with Women… Is Men: The Evolution of a Man’s Man into a Higher Conscious Man: Volume 1. The results were fascinating.

Besides identifying infidelity as one of the four fundamental flaws in men (as discussed in my book), the sad truth is that to be caught It was – albeit subconsciously – the long-term goal.

After interviewing more than 1,600 people, we emerged five key reasons why men and women cheat:

1. Women mostly reported cheating for emotional reasons, highlighting the contrast in how the genders determine the “whys” of intimacy. The main reasons why women cheat are:

  • Lack emotional closeness
  • Unhappiness in marriage or relationship
  • Reaffirm its desirability
  • Re-experiencing feelings of romance
  • Loneliness

2. 80 percent of men surveyed openly admitted to cheating largely for physical or intimate gratification, without any emotional attachment. If we list the main reasons why men cheat:

  • I want diversity
  • Offered the opportunity to get close without being caught immediately
  • Satisfy your curiosity about being with a specific person
  • thrill of chase
  • Desire to feel important or special (ego boost)

However, when I delved deeper into men’s reasons, I discovered that most men felt like they couldn’t “get out of their relationship” before infidelity; This meant they lacked the skills or respect to discuss their unhappiness with others. their significant other in a mature way.

In short, they admitted that they were unhappy and looking for a way out… but they never had the courage to pull the trigger on the relationship. If they cheat and get caught (most long-term cheaters do), they can quickly turn the tables and tell their partner that it wasn’t their fault they cheated for that reason (not enough intimacy, boredom, etc.). ).

I understand; monogamy isn’t for everyoneand that’s all good. But if you make promises, stick to them. If you don’t want to be faithful, at least have the decency and respect (and self-respect) to close one chapter before starting another. (According to statistics from the Institute of Family Studies20% of men and 13% of women admit to having an affair.)

Cheating is a choice, so make your choice.
