Parents who leave young children home alone have been arrested, deputies say

OHIO CO., Ky. (WFIE) – An Ohio County mother and father were arrested Monday after deputies say they left their child home alone.

Jessica M. Aquilar, 24, and Julio C. Velazquez Hernandez, 23, were taken into custody on two counts of Criminal Abuse and two counts of Wanton Endangerment.

Deputies said they responded to a home in the Centertown area for a welfare check.

Deputies discovered Aquilar and Hernandez had left their 3-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son alone while they went to work, according to the sheriff’s office.

The children were removed from the home and placed in the custody of the Department of Community Based Services, officials said.
