PA speaker to suspend MPAs causing ‘chaos’

Lahore:

Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan called for the removal of all assembly members found responsible for creating unrest in the country.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected President Khawaja Nasir and Punjab Assembly Press Gallery Committee Secretary Adnan Sheikh, the Speaker emphasized the importance of maintaining order and keeping national welfare ahead of personal or political gains.

The Speaker acknowledged the constitutional right to peaceful protest but condemned actions that undermine national security and stability. “Those who create chaos, regardless of their position as members of parliament, must face the consequences,” he argued.

Emphasizing the critical role of political stability, Speaker Khan stated that the welfare of the people should be the primary goal of any political party or movement.

Referring to the events of May 9, he described them as attacks on the country’s armed forces and institutions and accused a state prime minister of collaborating with rebels to undermine the federation. He also criticized the use of social media to discredit opposition politicians and the judiciary.

“Armed forces are a source of pride for every nation and false allegations against them must end.” He called on the government to take decisive measures against elements that encourage unrest.

Speaker Khan attributed the current turmoil in the country to the actions of certain individuals and emphasized that they rely on creating division and chaos to maintain their influence.

He also expressed his concern about the increasing cracks within the judiciary, stating that they hinder the delivery of justice. “Political stability and a strong government are essential for economic progress, but the ongoing turmoil continues unchecked,” he lamented.
