Major incident declared due to flooding in Northamptonshire

Council comments on flooding at Billing AquadromePublished date: November 25, 16:40 Greenwich Mean Time

Anna Earnshaw, chief executive of West Northamptonshire Council, told Roberto Perrone on BBC Radio Northampton: “Unfortunately we have to accept that Billing Aquadrome was built on a flood plain (in 1960). “You don’t do that in this day and age. I can’t get planning permission.

“I really feel for the residents who are facing the devastation caused by the (flooding).

“Some people need to move to another house temporarily, which is extremely difficult as hotel rooms are hard to find.

“We have three rescue centers with about 80 people in them. We will take care of their needs throughout the night if we need them; we have blankets, beds and food.”
