Jury sworn in Slowthai rape case

Jury sworn in Slowthai rape case

The jury has been sworn in to hear the trial of Grammy-nominated rapper Slowthai, who is accused of rape.

The rapper, whose real name is Tyron Frampton, and his accomplice, 27-year-old Alex Blake-Walker, deny three charges of joint rape and one count of sexual assault against the two women, which allegedly occurred on September 8, 2021.

Frampton, 29, arrived at Oxford Crown Court with his wife, singer Anne-Marie, on the first day of his trial.

Judge Ian Pringle told the jury of eight men and four women that they should not discuss the case with anyone, do no research and avoid news about the case.

“This case may attract some attention. If so, please remember that a reporter’s report is merely his or her view of the case,” he said.

“What matters is what you make of the evidence in the case. Try not to read, listen to or watch any reports that emerge.

“Remember, what is important is your perspective on the case.”

The judge said the trial is expected to last about three weeks.

Prosecutor Heather Stangoe will open the Crown’s case against the two defendants, who deny all charges on Tuesday.

Patrick Gibbs KC represents Frampton from Wellingborough Road in Northampton.

Blake-Walker, of Wallbutton Road in south-east London, is represented by Sheryl Nwosu.

The hearing was postponed to Tuesday.
