The government has appointed four new members to the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) for a three-year term.

According to separate notifications issued today by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, the newly appointed BERC members are Dr Syeda Sultana Razia, Md Gias Uddin Joarder, Md Abdur Razzak and Md Mizanur Rahman.

According to the notifications, the services of the new members will be considered full-time and they will not be able to work in another job during their tenure at BERC.

They will receive social assistance and allowances in accordance with the finance department letter dated 19 April 2017 and numbered 07.00.0000.126.00.001.10-87. Apart from this, they will receive treatment expenses.

In the statement, it was stated that as BERC members, they cannot conduct business under their own names or the names of their dependents in any organization in the electricity and energy sector.

They can resign from their positions by sending a resignation letter signed by them to the president with one month’s notice.

The notification stated that Section 11 of the Bangladesh Energy Commission Act, 2003 would apply to the removal of any member.

The appointments are made in the public interest and the terms of appointment will be determined by the BERC Act, 2003.
