In the United States, ProPublica reported on another pregnant woman in Texas who died after being denied appropriate treatment. Health experts say it was clear that Porsha Ngumezi, 35, needed an emergency dilation and curettage, or D&C, after she began bleeding heavily in the 11th week of her pregnancy, but she was given a misoprostol pill instead. While many doctors in states with abortion bans have begun to avoid D&C, a common and life-saving procedure, Houston Methodist Hospital, Roe v. This is the fifth case ProPublica has reported in which pregnant women died after being denied the most effective emergency care in the wake of the state’s abortion bans.
