Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials said an investigation is ongoing after a double shooting in Cudahy that left a 17-year-old dead and another teenager injured.

Deputies from the East Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station were in the area near Clara Street and Atlantic Boulevard regarding a domestic violence incident when they heard gunshots around 1 a.m.

Deputies heard several gunshots to the west of their location and ran to the 4400 block of Clara Street.

Responding deputies discovered a 17-year-old male victim shot in the middle of the street. After the fire brigade intervened, it was determined that the injured person died at the scene.

Deputies investigating the shooting also found a 15-year-old male victim suffering from a gunshot wound in the back of a home at the scene. He was taken to a trauma center in critical condition.

“We may be looking for more people. We need to learn more about what happened and continue our investigation from there,” Lt. Steve De Jong said.

Sheriff’s officials are investigating possible motives and whether the attack was gang-related.

No suspicious information was released.
