Ravinia to Close Logan Square Tavern Following Trademark Settlement

LOGAN SQUARE — The Logan Square brewery at the center of a long-running trademark dispute with Ravinia Festival will close its neighborhood taproom next month and change its name to rebrand, the brewery announced Tuesday.

Ravinia Brewing Company (now Steep Ravine Brewing Company) will host a farewell party Dec. 14 at its Logan Square taproom, 2601 W. Diversey Ave., but will still use the space to brew beer, according to a press release.

The name change to Steep Ravine Brewing stems from a legal agreement reached following the Highland Park outdoor concert venue Ravinia Festival. Sues Ravinia Brewing for trademark infringement. The dispute at one point threatened Ravinia Brewing’s existence and community fundraising effort More than $20,000 was collected for legal fees.

Steep Ravine Brewing Company will retain the brewery’s signature “Tree Guy” mascot and portfolio of award-winning beers, the company said in a statement.

Steep Ravine is the name of the brewery’s flagship IPA; The beer’s description on the Steep Ravine website reads “magically packed with citrus flavor, aromatic pine, and plenty of adventure.”

“This rebranding has given us a rare opportunity to reflect on who we are and what makes us special,” Jeff Hoobler, managing partner of Steep Ravine Brewing, said in the release. “We stay true to our identity by putting the ‘Tree Guy’ and our Highland Park heritage front and center.”

Ravinia Festival “provided support for the rebranding,” the statement said.

The Logan Square taproom closing party will feature special beer offerings, a “curated menu” and a chance for fans of the brewery to “remember the incredible stories that shaped the taproom’s journey,” the release said.

Steep Ravine also operates a taproom in suburban Highland Park, which will remain open.

Limited-edition Steep Ravine Brewing Company cans are available exclusively at both taprooms while supplies last.
