LONDON — British John Tinniswood, who was born the year the Titanic sank and survived two world wars and two global pandemics, died at the age of 112, according to the statement made on Tuesday, November 26, months after Guinness World Records recognized him as the world’s oldest. Man.

Tinniswood passed away on Monday in a care home in Southport, north-west England, surrounded by “music and love”, his family said in a statement to Guinness World Records.

“John had many good qualities. He was intelligent, determined, brave, calm in any crisis, talented in mathematics and a very good speaker,” his family said.

Born in Liverpool in August 1912, he met his wife Blodwen at a dance and in 1942, during World War II. She married him at the height of World War II, while he was serving in the Royal Army Pay Corps, which was responsible for finances and food supplies.

Tinniswood, who is survived by a daughter, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, later worked as an accountant in the oil industry before retiring at the age of 60. His wife died in 1986.

Between the ages of 100 and 110, he received a birthday card every year from the late Queen Elizabeth, who was 14 years his junior. He died in 2022.

Apart from eating some of his favorite food (battered fish and chips) every Friday, Tinniswood did not follow a special diet.

According to Guinness World Records, he remained mentally active, kept up with the news and managed his own finances; which may have contributed to its longevity.

When Guinness World Records awarded him the title of world’s oldest man in April this year, Tinniswood said there was no big secret to his longevity, insisting it was “just luck”.

“You either live long or you live short and you can’t do much about it,” he said.
