Meerut teenager’s death remains a mystery, a year after brutal attack

Hritik, 22, who was humiliated and attacked a year ago after a group of youths urinated on him and filmed the incident, was found dead on Monday.

According to police, Hritik was celebrating a friend’s selection into the merchant navy by partying with his friends at a hotel on Parikshatgarh Road on Monday night.

Meerut SSP Vipin Tada stated that Hritik’s condition worsened during the party. His friends took him to a nearby private hospital, but due to his condition deteriorating, he was transferred to the Medical Faculty hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The SSP confirmed that Hritik is the same person involved in the viral video incident, for which a case was filed at the Civil Lines police station last year. However, he clarified that the friends who accompanied Hritik at the party had nothing to do with the earlier incident and that they were the ones who took him to the hospital.

“The post-mortem was conducted by a panel of doctors and recorded on camera,” the SSP said, adding that the report would determine the cause of death and guide further investigations.

He also stated that Hritik’s family has not filed a complaint yet and a case will be filed based on their statements.

Meanwhile, police questioned Hritik’s friends who were present at the party and recorded statements of hotel staff in a bid to gather more details about the incident.
