One of the main suspects in the murder of Stephen Lawrence has been jailed for six months for breaching a serious criminal behavior order.

Jamie Acourt, 48, has always denied involvement in the murder of an 18-year-old teenager in south-east London in 1993 and has never been convicted.

He was previously jailed for masterminding a £3million drug scheme in 2018, but was released four years later.

Acourt, who spent two years on the run in Spain under the pseudonym Simon Alfonzo before being extradited to the UK, was released from prison in November 2022 after serving half his sentence.

He was sentenced to prison “due to the defendant’s apparent failure to comply with court orders,” according to court documents.

But he has now been sent back to prison after breaching a serious criminal behavior order made by a judge at Kingston Crown Court.

He did not tell police that he had driven a white transit van on 12 separate occasions between August 11 and October 21.

The CPS confirmed Acourt pleaded guilty to the charge of driving without insurance, was sentenced to six months in prison and was given six points on his license at a hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court last month.

The Metropolitan Police said the offenses relate to an incident in Park Way in Hounslow, west London, on October 21.

Gary Dobson and David Norris were sentenced to life imprisonment in 2012 after being found guilty of Mr Lawrence’s murder at the Old Bailey.

A fifth suspect, Luke Knight, remained free, while Matthew White, who was twice arrested but never tried for the murder, died aged 50 before being identified as a suspect following a BBC investigation last year.
